Advising 101

General Advising Questions

Priority registration ensures that a student who is in the Seawolf Scholars program will have an early registration time and gives the student the opportunity to get the courses that they need to complete their degree in a timely manner. To prepare for your priority registration time, it is recommended that students make an advising meeting with BOTH their faculty advisor and Seawolf Scholars Advisor.  Meeting with their faculty advisor will support students who have specific degree requirements for each semester.  Look at your ARR and see what areas you need to complete and search courses in the Seawolf Schedular.  For more information please visit the Advising Central website.

You may find your assigned academic advisor(s) a few different ways:

Once you have been accepted into the Seawolf Scholars program you are eligible to schedule a one-on-one appointment with the Seawolf Scholars Academic Advisor.  You will  need to log into your MYSSU account and follow the directions given on the Advising Central page by clicking the following link: LoboConnect.

If you have been placed on academic probation, please set up an advising meeting with your Seawolf Scholars Advisor to support you in creating an academic plan to get off Academic Probation.

  • You have been placed on academic probation because your cumulative or SSU GPA falls below a 2.0.
  • You can be removed from academic probation once you have a cumulative GPA and SSU GPA has been raised to a 2.0 or better.

For more information please visit the Office of the Registrar website

If you have been placed on financial aid disqualification, please meet with your Seawolf Scholar Advisor as soon as possible. They will help you navigate the SAP appeal process or other options available.

  • You can find the SAP appeal form in you MyFA Forms in your MySSU portal.
  •  A SAP appeal can be made if the student has extenuating circumstances that seriously affect the students academic performance.
  • A SAP appeal includes: A personal statement that includes the extenuating circumstances, what has changed to ensure the student will meet SAP standards, and address all other semesters that SAP was not met.

When a student receives a financial aid warning, it means that they have not met their SAP requirements
What is SAP? SAP is a student's Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP). It is required that a student receiving financial aid meet the following requirements to receive their aid package. For a student to receive their aid package they must meet each of the major components:

  1. Pace Standard (Pass Rate): Complete a minimum percentage of their cumulative units. Undergraduates need to complete 67% of the cumulative units attempted.
  2. Graduate students need to complete 70% of the cumulative units attempted.
  3. Maximum Time Frame Standard: Complete a degree program within 150% of the units of the degree.
  4. GPA standard: meet the minimum cumulative GPA of 2.0 for undergraduate students 3.0 or above for graduate students
